67 brake booster
« on: October 13, 2019, 12:32:32 AM »
Looking for the Midland 7 1/4" brake booster that I believe is proper for a 67 GT500. This is for a tribute car being built from a manual drum brake car so something that is visually the same as the Midland unit or similar may be acceptable. I think the link below shows the proper unit but these folks don't have the cores. This price ($389.50) appears to be the cost to rebuild your core.

Any advice on a suitable substitute would also be appreciated.

Most of us here send our boosters here. Steve manufactures most of the replacement parts for the Midland-Ross units as well.

just bought one for the 68 and there were very few out there  nobody even had a core to rebuild.
Some where some one is driving their collector car for the last time but they don't know it . Drive your car every time like it could be the last memory of it .

FYI I have a friend that went  through 3 of those auto zone remans before he got one that would work right. New remans but they had ruptured diaphragms. Plus they had to order them each time from the warehouse. He was walk in , I cant imagine the hassle if he had to ship them back each time. On top of that all of the work to install and remove the ones that didn't work .It was a disaster of time and effort .

I was always lucky with them, but I heard it also from other guys, but it dont matter which brake booster for a mustang it was, there are a lot of problems with them.

Steve at power brake exchange charges a flat rate of 135. He has the phenolic plastic parts reproduced.  Service was about 14 days. They couldn't do mine as an exchange because the housing is chrome plated.
I would also suggest contacting West Coast Cougar. They have units as well outright.
