I have been looking around at different Shelbys for sale on the internet however the photos do not tell me everything and have seen some in the $75,000 range. Trying to figure out what condition these would be in, obviously they are unrestored but have original drive train ect. I am talking about a 1968 GT500 fastback.

I am new to Shelbys and my interest is also new, although I do own a 1968 Mustang. Thanks for any information.

You could get a great Shelby for that kind of money.
And almost any Boss 302.  Not all but most.

Stick with a private owner and you should find a very nice driver 68....I would jump on a roller CSX 6000 series then order a 427 aluminum motor with trans & install myself with your 75K...but thats just me...Good luck with your search.

CSX6000  series  are a great car but id shy away from an all aluminum block and heads.  They might be lightweight and cool looking but consider a cold start up at zero lash on a solid camshaft to get the desired  .18  warm lash setting.  the expansion rate is way too much on the lifter and pushrod.  Stick with an iron block and alloy heads.   www.period13cobras.com

If you went with a 68 350 instead of a 500 that price might get you a restored one.

There are so many all aluminum FE's running around today, especially in CSX's and Kirkhams, that this statement cannot be correct. An all aluminum FE is almost standard issue now with high end CSX and Kirkham Cobras.

It certainly is correct. It was so bad that CSI removed the blocks temporarily from sale. But you know CS. Hungry for those good times baby.

Why don't you hear more about it? Something about the nature of the buyers. You know...numb nuts.

You obviously speak with zero or near zero knowledge. Not only that but insult people without knowing them. Who's the numb nuts? When did Shelby stop production? Do you have any evidence that you can show here? The early blocks had leak problems, yes, but there are over 1,000 CSX blocks sold out there now? Pond blocks are outstanding as well. Have you read the FE Forum? A whole bunch of people are running them over there. Read the Club Cobra Forum lately? A lot folks running aluminum blocks over there too.

Between several friends and I, using the CSX and Pond blocks, after 10's of thousands of miles, NO PROBLEMS. No oil leaks either.
