Long time car enthusiast, huge Ford fan, and a Jinormous Shelby fan, final has bought one of his own, a '68 GT500KR Aculpoco Blue fastback, Auto, Air, etc...  I'm doing the complimentary SAAC appraisal for insurance, but I'm also interested in a full blown in-person appraisal by someone certified to do so and someone who really knows Shelby's and all the finer points that dictate value.  Is there such a person anyone could recommend in WA?

Looking forward to meeting the group!

Thanks, Todd

Gary Campbell is in Washington and he is a concours 1968 judge.

In all seriousness,...what I wrote above is exactly why an experienced guy should look at any Shelby before purchase.  Or at least a call to the Registrar for that year.  Thats bare minimum.
That said,...I can also recommend Gary,.... as that is who I sent to look at my KR before I bought it out of WA state.  He's local (to your car) and a 68 guy as indicated by Mr. Coralsnake himself.

You guys are making me laugh already, that's good :-)

Call it the wife factor.  While I have been planning this purchase for sometime (years), and doing my research (years), I guess she can't read my mind?  So one day I bring home this car, and of course now I'm having all sorts of un-expected work done, and unfortunately she monitors the check book, and I would like to have some evidence if nothing else that the continued money I'm spending is worth while, and the car is a good investment?  A little CYA so I can keep doing this kind of thing.   HeadSpin

There's also some underlining issue about some things on the car that were clearly not as represented, in writing, that I want to nicely address with the Seller.  It's a rush owning a KR, now I just want to drive it!  West Coast Restorations has the car now and they are doing some great work for me.

If it's a "wife" issue... well, any one of us can provide the proper documentation.

Just tell us what you want it to say.

Covert operations
 Shelby dollars = $100 or $1000 or $10000

this way you can say it only cost  3 Shelby dollars
 300
3000
30000

 Its up to you Smiley

Got, it. The "sawed in half" comment was funnier than you know, send me a p/m.

Don't worry , Todd, I don't have anything on your car.

As for the Appraisal, I agree the Shelby Club is your best source, they will "help" you.

Too many guys are writing appraisals and don't have a clue what a Shelby is or what it is worth.  The market is dynamic and one car guy can't be up to speed on the prices and nuiances of several makes, models and manufacturers. Just my opinion.

Appraisals do have a place, but as far as I am concerned a rather small place. The one that always makes me laugh is the eBay seller, "This car was appraised at $200,000". So what? It is only worth $ 75,000.

One issue here is if you know the right people, you can get an appraisal for any amount. So, the motivations are important.

As for Mrs. KR, just try something like, this is a forty year old car, dear, quality was not the same as today's vehicles. If you need more we are full of them.
