I was 13 and dragged my family up there from Cupertino in the VOLVO, my brother on crutches.  While on the four-lane unprotected highway heading up there, a Saleen was taking it easy in the slow lane and we passed them at around 5mph faster.....I had already absorbed a bunch of technical and other trivia about Shelbys and Mustangs in the 3 years I'd already been studying...and I knew that the all -white (I think an SSC prototype) we passed was being driven by Steve Saleen.  I also have a ton of pictures from this event I'll try to post.

I was there at SAAC13. It was at the Luther Burbank Center off River road. That was a time when I wasn’t into Shelby’s. My wife and I had been married only a year or so and we were buying our first home there in Santa Rosa. I did manage to go on the last day. I had heard a 67 or 68 GT500 had been stolen from the hotel or was it the Center. I can’t remember if they ever recovered that car. I did buy a dash plaque. I thought it was cool with the grape vines on it. My wife’s car was a 68 ranchero she inherited from her dad. I supped it up a bit with 15x8 200S’s  & 50 series BFG TA’s, tri-y mustang headers side exhaust I bought in Petaluma at the old ford parts swap meet.  I also put in a black leather bench seat from a Lincoln Continental powered and with a fold down arm rest. That was a cool car it was Wimbledon white. I miss that thing. I put a bunch of left over stuff on it from my first 65 clone days. Just thinking back I also put one of Bill Maier Racing “T” sumped cast oil pans on it that didn’t have the Cobra lettering. It had a 302, an automatic C4 with a 3 on the tree. I regret selling that car for $650.00. Just rambling, but I was there.

We brought a Mustang convertable home that Ford had loaned the club. I always return whatever I borrow from them clean and full of gas. Our 16 year old daughter was more than happy to wash it and drive it for a few days before it had to be returned to Stroppe's.

Was there with 67202F4A02637. Was loaned a friends modified 66 fastback for the open track part of the event since the 67 had a borrowed motor for the weekend. Got stopped for doing a burn out down the main drag on Saturday night - I was sorry and polite so they simply told me to go back to the motel and stay there  idea  Young and .............

This was my first convention as I moved from Sweden in the summer of 1987.
Met Carroll Shelby and got his autograph. Also met a fellow Scandinavian from
Norway who was there. Have many pictures from that excellent event.
Had bought 5S275 in Feb the same year so I was very interested in 65's as well as 67's.
Time passes quicker and quicker but I still own the 65 and the 67 I bought in 1977.

  Hi ,
The car that was stolen was a recently restored 1968 Shelby. The owners were right behind the car we were showing (67 G.T. 500)sitting in chairs looking at an empty space and they were totally bummed out.I made up a batch of notices and put them up all over the show field so people would be able to contact them if it was spotted. It was about 9 months later the car was recovered still in ca.stripped but they did recover it,and the owner did get it back.Do not know what has happened since then, but I think this was the only time we ever had that type of experience during a convention...and I have been to more than a dozen since. The club has a very good record.
