Besides what Charles pointed out, other clues assuming the front clip was removed would be to look for any sign of a fog light switch/hole in dash. No hole and a 9" inch plate + a choke cable hole makes it more likely to be a non-GT K and not an A GT. Other clues maybe left behind or not to determine if a GT or not would be a fog light circuit breaker by brake pedal support, and/or wiring, D (for disc brake) stamped in brake pedal, signs of hole where rear bumperette would have been bolted on a non-GT car.

Even in the 80's people would have modified a K code.
It's not a waste just a time machine on value and perspective .

None taken!  Honestly if I had the ability to do body work , and it wasn't 3,500 miles away, I would consider it. You get a couple grand back it selling race parts, buy a few things like a dash , some rear wheel openings , a rear valance and a hood with that money . Do the body work , then the interior.  Restore the engine and throw on some styled steel wheels. I could see high thirtys , low fortys. Maybe 5-10 grand profit. I'd call myself a "wheeler dealer"  Hysterical Where's Edd China when you need him?
Randy,
You're not thinking big enough. This could easily become one of the new R Models and be worth $250,000.  Hysterical
