Actually, I cant understand the logic....I can write down all the 1968 Shelby VINs. Does that give me some power or ability to steal them?

Seems like $35-40 would be a good number for the car. Can anyone tell me when was the last time they saw a 68 GT500 sell for less than that? It has always seemed like cars in this condition were high priced due to their rarity. Myself, I would prefer no rust but with so few project cars to choose from its a sellers market. If this were a 67 I would assume the price would be much higher.

No it doesn't. But see, most people in today society don't understand that because of being such a cruel world we live in. I'm sure he doesn't really understand the Muscle car hobby or more specific the Shelby hobby like we do. So, it's just human nature for him not to throw out the VIN to just any "emailer" or caller that ask him about the VIN. JMO

Honestly I would be a lot more concerned about provenance than a vin....vins can be faked but ironclad provenance back to new(or at least back to when they weren't valuable enough to make it worth faking) not so much....obviously ideally you really want both...my 2 cents...Trent

Maybe I'm not like most....but I'm not a fan of people on CL saying "best off takes it" etc.
Someone selling a car has got to have an idea in mind what they want for it, right?  Give me some idea to see if I'm wasting my time or not.
Or if you want a bidding war but it on eBay!

As mentioned above, someone not willing to give a VIN because they are afraid you can do something bad with it isn't informed or thinking right.
Kinda like the people who cover over their license plate or are afraid to give their bank routing info so I can wire them money!

I guess I would argue in the case of the VIN, a known number is better protection.

I think the seller should be offering a price. If you dont, youre probably not serious.

You're right, I guess if someone really wanted to do something bad with a VIN they could.  It would take some work.
I guess it's the people who have no idea how to a serious buyer the VIN helps in the due diligence that frustrates me.
Or the people who are adamant the VIN verifies if a car is a GT or not!

"like" the seller must think it was born automatic.
