Keith, others may disagree but never seen square mesh in assembly line application after 68. My first choice for FA 50 in 69 would be round hole

I have & had several nos assembly line & take-off fa-50 filters with square & later diamond wire mesh . I documented (with photos) back 25 years ago a guy showed up at ford ohio swap meet with a take-off 68 1/2 gt500 KR aircleaner assembly covered in dirt that he found cleaning out his barn that he had taken off his Shelby when new making a hot rod out of his car & he had long sold the Shelby & was selling off extra parts & the original filter was assembly line square wire mesh fa-50. Back 30 years ago I bought a 71 429scj mach1 from the OO & it had a 351 in it but he had back in storage the original 429scj engine complete with smog & ram-air cleaner & that assembly line fa-50 had diamond wire mesh filter. He told me he had pulled the 429scj shortly after he had bought the car new & installed the 351 so his wife could drive the car because he got drafted or was going into the army or navy or? I also have a doof #  (70 torino) take-off assembly line filter & it has diamond wire mesh also & the 70- doof filter is shorter than the tall 68 fa-50 filter so the diamond wire mesh replaced the square wire mesh sometime around 1969 or so. The (assembly -line type ) filters were pre-installed inside the complete air cleaner assembly set-up by the vendor before being shipped to the assembly line from what I seen.  Remember the air filter  was supposed to be changed at 10.000 mi.
