1967 Shelby sequence number 1532 is a GT350 that was ordered from Shelby American in Los Angeles, CA by Rivers Ford in Monroe, LA on February 3, 1967 and delivered by rail the end of April. Her original equipment included the Extra Cooling Package, Courtesy Light Group, Interior Decor Group, Heavy Duty Battery, Power Steering, Power Disc Brakes, Shoulder Harness, 4-Speed Transmission, Radio, and a Fold-Down Rear Seat. She remained showroom eye candy until purchased by her first owner in October. He owned her 4 years, until 1971. Two short term owners later, in 1979, a gentleman in New Orleans, LA purchased the Shelby with little over 71K miles on her odometer. There she remained in an un-restored state for the next 25+ years until it was decided to pull her out of the garage and send her to the capable hands of Orlando Mustang in Osteen, Florida for a complete rotisserie 'nut and bolt' restoration. Completed in early 2008 she garnered GOLD status in MCA Concours Trailered Division. Detailed restoration receipts document in excess of 1400 hours of labor plus parts and materials exceeding $30K. Over 2000 digital pictures document the restoration process.
Noted during the restoration, 1532 retained her original quarter panels, original fenders, original Shelby unique fiberglass hood, trunk lid, rear quarter caps, nose panel, functional brake and air extractor scoops and grille. Also noted were original inner fender panels showing both Shelby and Ford VINs (Verified by SAAC), her original Steering Wheel, Rollbar, Shoulder Harness Belts and Retractors and Dash Pad. As photo documented during the restoration her passenger side rear lower quarter panel and drivers side rear floor pan were replaced due to rust.
Currently this GT350 runs a 2000 Ford 302 cubic inch 'roller' short block with a solid lifter cam, topped by HiPo 289 heads, the original Cobra intake manifold, and a 715 Holley carburetor. Exhaust exits through HiPo 289 exhaust manifolds into a stock transverse dual exhaust system. Without inspecting for casting numbers, this motor represents a visually correct GT350 HiPo 289. Power is transmitted through a Ford Motorsport heavy duty King Cobra clutch and the original VIN stamped Top Loader 4 speed transmission to the original 9 inch open rear end now carrying more steetable 3.55 ratio gears. As documented by the original owner, the rear end ratio change was performed in 1968.
Now, for those of you that have been let down by the fact that she no longer has her original, VIN stamped, correct casting and assembly date coded HiPo engine.......No, I didn't track down her original mill. Sad to say that engine was lost to the car some time between 1971 and 1979. Probably KIA in a street race! I did however, manage to find a VERY RARE 1967 HiPo 289. Shelbys included, less than one half of 1% of 1967 Mustangs were fitted with the HiPo 289 (1,664 of 472,121). Now for the real 'needle in the haystack'.....the engine is Casting and Assembly date code Correct for 1532 AND the Best Part.......it is VIN stamped and has been identified as coming from a 1967 GT350 whose completion date at Shelby American is just two days prior to 1532's (4/5/67 vs 4/7/67). Please do not ask for the engine stamped VIN or the GT350 number. They will be provided only to the buyer prior to purchase completion.
HiPo Engine by the numbers:
VIN Stamp - 7R02KXXXXXX
Block Casting Date - 7A5 - Jan 5, 1967
Heads Casting Date - 6M22 - Dec 22, 1966
Engine Assembly Date - A20F - Jan 20, 1967
This 'spare engine' provides the best of both worlds. Drive with the currently installed engine without fear of harming a rare irreplaceable piece of history or install the real date code correct HiPo! Your choice.
The iconic Shelby cars all have their own personal history and story. The loss of 1532's original powerplant and this HiPo's acquisition and paring with 1532 are chapters in the cars continuing life history to be passed down to the next caretaker....is that you?!
In addition to the HiPo engine, owner history, original owner pictures, original owners manual, copies of the Ford Special Vehicle Order, Shelby American Production Order, Shelby American Invoice, and Rivers Ford Window sticker plus Marti Report, Dyno tune graphs, MCA judging sheets, restoration receipts and photo CDs will accompany car.
This Shelby GT350 represents the best of the best. Documented and Investment Grade.
