Brian,

There were 29 Medium Metallic Gray GT350 and one GT500 (breakdown as follows):

The GT500 is 4 speed no smog (67400)

There are 20 GT350 4 speed no smog (67200)
There is 1 GT350 4 speed with no smog with A/C (67201)
There are 2 GT350 automatic no smog (67210)
There are 5 GT350 automatic no smog with A/C (67211)

I have not begun to research the upper scoop lights and cannot venture a guess at to how many of these cars came with them.

I appreciate the efforts of those who have been investigating this for our benefit.

As Brian mentioned only 11 Medium Gray Metallic cars were built within the approximate time frame for having the upper scoop lights.
Adding to that, within the first 250 cars that number stays the same at 11.
Of those 11 cars, only 5 cars have them, 4 may or may not, and 2 don't have them. So they max out at 9 at the most.

I'm standing by my post #27 guess that Raven Black will be the largest number of cars to have the upper scoop lights.
49 of them were built within the first 250 cars.
Of those 49 cars, 20 have the USL, 27 may or may not, and 2 don't have them. So they max out at 47 at the most.

White, Nightmist Blue, and Dark Moss Green are all strong possibilities for the second spot. I'm leaning toward white.

I agree with Richstang on this for all the reasons he has listed.

Hi 67 Fans,
Much as has been stated about this, and at most we can only speculate numbers of cars with lights....The only accurate way is to look at examples with original paint or any signs of tampering/removal of the scoops. This makes me
think the cut off point was very early in January and my count is only 160 cars...and again I stress we should look for examples that are original paint and that have not been removed from the car.To date 213 is the best example of these parameters. There were a few other reasons things could change this, like the way parts were painted in batches of colors or rush orders for a certain car,Hertz cancelling their order. The month of January really had production
in high gear and they nearly tripled the number of cars made in December  (267 in Jan.)verses (89 in Dec.) so any possible way to save time was put in place....and it got faster and faster in the next few months! I think the color
chart listed makes good sense, but as Bob says....just when you think you have it figured out,it changes or there is an exception to the "normal" pattern.
Regards to all R.R.

Anthony, one factor I'd like to add to your list (that I know you are aware of but maybe forgot to include) is the arrival of Fred Goodell in Nov/Dec., '66.

His encounter with the California DOT and being made aware that the scoop lights (and the inboard grille lights) were illegal in California, and a number of other states.  A primary reason the scoop lights were phased out once the cars currently in completion were done.

Hi all,
Thanks J.D. for the Fred Goodell  reminder--according to an interview with him and current registry info he began working for S.A.I. on December 5 1966  Job #1 was to get Ford to send 427 engines for Cobras
Job#2 was to get 67 production up to speed and he was key in streamlining production. As we know he also went to Sacramento to inquire about lighting requirements and got his ears burned...so the Shelby crew had to
design/source/build an outboard headlamp setup, and they quit installing scoop lights. The sad thing is we never knew an exact date and Fred has since passed away. I think he used the New Year as the cutoff date. Other things were axed by California laws like side exiting exhaust and sequential turn signals, which also affected Shelby builds. It would be so easy if we had an exact date, or if the time machine was a reality.
Regards R.R.

Dennis, can you tell me where you got your numbers?   Looking over my copies of DSO info on the 67GT350's shows:

21   200F
2    201F
2    210F
5    211F

The 2 4spd Grey A/C no smog cars are shown in DSO 2525: # 1151 and # 1242.
I see 21 total 4spd Grey no A/C no smog in DSO's    2515 and  2524.
Otherwise my data agrees.
Thanks, Kurt.

Hi Again all 67 folks,
Just looked at a few numbers and maybe a way to check things faster...15 cars built on 01/03/67 would like to know if anyone here has knowledge of the following cars:
165 170 188 193 205 209 212 215 223 226 228 231 232 249 261  if so please check for original paint...and report back. My hope is to gather as many clues as possible, until the Big Bang folks can make the time machine happen.

Based on a list 'Richstang" was keeping:
Red is "Not Known"
Maroon is "NO"

Maybe he or others can confirm or correct...

RR,
I like your alternative way to look at this. A resorting of my VIN list by SA build dates for 1/3/67 shows;.
#165 and #231 are NO, with the others on that date as unknown. Nothing that has them, so far.

For all the reason previously stated in this thread, a few cars may have had them after this date, but they should be considered very carefully.

Anyone have photos of #167?

Doesn't appear to have scoop lights (in 2007).

Thanks for that link / photo!

Zooming in on it there appears to be something there, but it looks silver, perhaps a chrome ring around the light?
