67 Shelby steering wheel on 68 tilt/pop column
« on: November 02, 2018, 08:35:11 PM »
I'm installing a reproduction, Scott Drake, 67 Shelby steering wheel on my '68. It has the tilt/pop column.

I'm told that it will not "cancel" the turn signal, that I now will need to do that manually?

I know there are a few of you who have already done this mod. Have you been able to make the directional switch cancel?

since when do New Yorkers  use turn signals?
Some where some one is driving their collector car for the last time but they don't know it . Drive your car every time like it could be the last memory of it .

I have installed an original 67 Shelby wheel on my 68 Shelby, I used a 67 tilt collor with the rolled over edge to make things look correct, worked out well, I also installed a scoot D wheel in a 68 mustang but no tilt and had to use original cancel plastic ring everything worked fine

It's none of your business where I am going. ;)

It would appear I am missing the plastic "cancelling cam". I couldn't find a detailed illustration of the column components. Tilt parts aren't very popular with the vendors.

The cam is not tilt specific

I'm not arguing because I am not an expert on steering columns but according to California Mustang, who is supplying it, it is specific to 67 Shelby and 68-69 Mustang tilt.

As long as it works, I'll be happy.

I haven't had this column apart since 1975 and if there was a cam in it when I took it apart, there would be one in it now. That's too long ago to remember the specifics of the situation though.

The turn signal switch is specific to the tilt column.

I found that in order to make this work the cancelling cam needed to be firmly attached to the hub on the steering wheel.

That meant tapping in two 2-56 button head screws. Not an easy task but done.

Working that small is like microsurgery I suppose?
