What are the correct rear wheel cylinders for a 68 -500 ? With both cylinders ( RH, LH ) brake line holes facing to the rear ? or are they opposite each other - one facing rear /the other facing forward ? I have seen it both ways . To put it another way are both wheel cylinders the same? or are there RH and LH cyl. How about the bleeder 1/4" ? , Was there a change from 67 to 68 ? Thanks for the help.

Pete, you '68 guys probably refer to them as "those rolling test beds until they got it right on the '68's."
But yes, the last part of "limegold2" original question was "Was there a change from 67 to 68?"
I know some guys that have been debating the - one for both sides (bleeders face forward one side back the other side) vs LH/RH so that's why I'm also curious as to your answers.

I think right and left are different. Your generic part number for each is as follows. right side wc17508 and left side wc17507 if you google it. I think they changed to same right and left in 70 but not for sure. I am going from memory but i think the bore size is 7/8.

Trying to research this a few years ago I found out that they were different for 69 as in 31 spline axle cars got different ones from side to side and 28 spline got the same ones from side to side. well in 68 our Shelbys had 31 spline but i have heard both "styles" being used . don't know if it was a new thing mixup or what. I don't know why they felt they had to use different ones on the 31 spline cars. I also know the generic auto parts books were wrong on this back in the 90s. Had to match up the "unique" one and it was mid 60s Galaxie cylinder for a 69 428CJ car I was doing. Gary

Been through this dozens of times. The C7ZZ 2262 A wheel cylinder is used left and right on all 68 Shelbys. The MPC lists it as for 390 equipped cars. I believe it was also used in 67 at least on the BB Shelbys, not sure about small block. What gets confusing is if you order a brake line set for a 31 spline car you rceive a set that is for the L & R specific cylinders which I believe is correct for 31 spline non Shelby applications. In order to get the correct brake line and hose set you need to order a 28 spline set up.

Here is what I have found out on a limited basis talking to guys who have 68.5 Mustangs and KRs on the rear wheel cylinders. So far they are the same side to side. Maybe the line mix up for 68s deal with the fact that 69s with 31 spline axles used diff cylinders each side. Gary

you cant compare CJs and KRs as the whole rear end was a build item specifically for Shelby. If you look up wheel cylinders for CJ they list different L & R

I was just saying that a friend with a 68.5 Mustang has the same wheel cylinders for both sides. i haven't seen anyone selling rear brake lines for 68 that are Shelby specific. So my thought is that 68.5s used the same ones on both side-Shelby or Mustang with 31 spline axles-regardless of what the books say(been wrong before). I'll do some more digging.
