It is genius in marketing, just think off all the free publicity they will now get both on and off the web from admitting it was a fake. Now imagine all of the forum postings it will get, soon CNN, Fox News, and Reuters will pick up on it, followed by the trickle down effect from all of the smaller "local" stations........Millions of dollars worth of free publicity.......Someone at their ad agency is very, very smart.

I think Shelby's strategy for selling 1,000 horsepower street cars is that inevitably there will be some ham-fisted drivers that will total the new car and kill themself. In the process, Shelby will already have a list of owners that can double as a list to cultivate a group of future organ donors. What the "Shelby 1000 HP" owners won't realize is that fine print within the sales contract (which they already signed) gives Ol' Shel first right at their organs.

It's pure genius!

++++++++++

And speaking of a staged wheelie photo of a Shelby, this is an interesting thread  ...

$150,000.00+ 1000 Horsepower Shelby GT500 Mustang fakes a wheelie, but hey look at all the free advertising. Nice one.
Brand X now has to ante up.

Shocked! I am shocked, I tell you. That someone would retouch the photo of a
car at a drag strip to make it appear that it is lifting a wheel under acceleration is beneath contempt. Have these people have no decency? I am outraged! Oh, the humanity!

Obviously they should have followed the lead of the Rickmiester and released the photo on April 1st to all the media.  Then they could spend the next ten months trying to explain it.

I can't explain it entirely, but I am convinced it has something to do with the stripes? I'll bet Thurman Loomus is involved? Gotta' look out for those musicians?

I came across this picture of Thurman on the Internet. Didn't he play keyboard for the Beatles?
