It has taken been 11 years since the mirror that came with the car became broken.

It has taken 3 years for me to obtain an original style mirror which is very good except for some very minor peeling of the silver backing around the edge of the glass.

Resilvering seems like the most practical option for getting a mirrior which has a good silver backing.

Who can resilvered the glass in my original style interior day/night rear view mirror?

Thanks

I'm not sure on the day/nite mirror.  Always a good place to look is in Hemmings Motor News under "services".  Hemmings is also on-line.

Getting the mirror glass loose from the mirror head without breaking it will be the challenge. Let us know if you develop a technique to separate the glass.

The resilvering of my interior day/night rear view mirror glass was completed in a two week period by Cliff’s Classic Chevrolet, PO Box 33288, in Portland, Oregon 97292 at a cost of $40 plus $10 for shipping.  The mirror looks great.  Cliff’s email address is “clifchev@aol.com"

To remove the glass from the black plastic housing, I cut a yellow plastic bondo spreader into some strips and used several of the strips at the same time to slowly pry the glass from the housing.  It looked like some two sided tape was used to secure the glass to the housing.

I would like to get my mirror head rechromed but the glass looks like it is crimped into the  chrome housing-standard 66 mirror-not day/night.

I guess I need to find an old one that I can take apart and have a look see. Anybody know a source for replacement glass only? Otherwise I guess I need to keep looking for an NOS head.

Request:

Response:

The tip is to soak the whole unit in hot water for 20 minutes, use your thumbs to work the case away from the glass from the top of the glass to the bottom of the glass not from the left to the right (this means don't do something that will bend the glass along its longest axis because it will increase the probability of the glass breaking), use no tools, don't be in a hurry.
