C5HM and GT350HR,
Check out my own restoration research trials and tribulations of a clipped race car on TransAmEd's ponysite.de in the 1967 T/A section or google "jim lange's mustang".

That's quite a story on the coupe. I am surprised it is not "hinged" in the middle after that repair (like the Boss T/A cars were said to be in 1969 after the St. Jovite shunt). I am guessing the car has picked up a sturdy set of sub-frame connectors to make it whole? Thanks for the link. Good luck on the history search.

It's a pretty beefy weld and yes it does have connectors. If all goes well, regardless of the outcome of the research (THANKS to so many SAAC members behind the scenes and to ponysite.de fans) I'd like to have the car on track at the next West Coast SAAC convention. Our other car SFM5022 is coming off a rotisserie restoration soon.

Key to the research is confirming Guider's story that he bought "two left over SA 67 notchback's that were updated to 68' TA specs". I've not been able to find anyone that has confirmed that other than what I've read over time, but no stories from the likes of Bernie K etc. When asking Jerry S, Lew S and Chuck C they simply don't remember a lot about individual cars. Where I've been able to find luck is speaking to all of the previous owners on a regular basis 3 being here in the Phoenix area, one in Vegas, another in CA. And believe me...all are type A racer types..and even when in their late 60's and early 70' still remember every car, every lap, and of course won every race they ever entered!

I came across this photo on a BMW 2002 site while searching "Titus Shelby" with no info written on it. It appears to be a '67 T/A car by the quarter panels vents and likely No17 but, maybe No31. By the location of the "GoodYear" logo on the fender it appears to be later in the season perhaps at CDR, Riverside, Modesto, or Kent. Would anyone know where this was taken or when?

Randy, All agreed. I was just curious about Dave's old (now sold) Cougar. I guess I thought that he started with more than a roll bar. I know that was the strong suggestion when the car was displayed at shows. From what I read (if I understand correctly) even that roll bar was not used. Certainly, there are way too many "restorations" that have started with less than that (or nothng at all, in some cases). I generally wouldn't and don't have a problem with those "restorations" .....if...the recreators were candid about just how little of an original car (or none at all) they started with.
There was little more than the roll cage that dave T based his cougar "restoration" around. Before he had even picked up the parts he was advertising a "bud moore cougar" for sale on his web site. I Had a friend of mine inquire about this "car" he had listed for sale. In no uncertain terms he was told it was one of the originals and Could only be bought after the restoration was completed . Mr Tom could never produce any before pictures of the car he claimed to have for sale. Having delt with him on the history of some other cars he had slid down the slippery slope of recreating cars for his own financial benefit. I would not assume any car he has for sale is real unless there is a list of previous owners and Pre Restoration Photos as proof .

10-4. The admonition about seeking photographic proof is good advice for any vintage race car buyer from any source. There is way too much fraud out there these days. Some of the cars I have seen at auction as offered by supposedly "reputable" auction houses in the last year make me wonder if anyone can be trusted to tell the truth about an old race car. More's the pity.

I'm thinking it might be CDR (since it matches in both background and sponcor logo layout, or Modesto. (I'm against Riverside because of a missing logo behind the goodyear, and against Kent because there's no trees in the background) Anyone have any thoughts to add in this regard.

Yes, you're right, I've been there a few times. Certainly a lot of great pics to share as the page owner mentions were downloaded from web or books.

Found this nice color photo of the ex-Bud Moore Cougar being raced by it's new owners at Sebring in 68.
Course they were headed for trouble....
