I fashioned this hokey tool that makes it a whole lot easier to remove the ball stud socket, when it binds up and makes it difficult to disassemble the unit for repairs or inspection.
I simply ground off the shoulders of an old travel regulator (see diagram) until it was small enough to fit within the opening of the valve sleeve.
On the bolt I'm using in place of the spool bolt, I've provided a yoke so a slide hammer can be attached to it.
This tool can be used to coax a stubborn socket in position to remove the ball stud, or to pull the socket out of the sleeve.
It's a labor saver!
