I was able to scan some slides my Dad took at Sebring 1965.  We had a box seat over the pits that year (deluxe).  I know you guys love the details - enjoy!

I love vintage pictures and these are some very nice ones. Your dad has some skills. Great clarity to see the details for sure! The Cobra looks like csx2189, the Daytona csx2299, and the Ford GT is either 103 or 104. I can't tell which one. Thanks for sharing these!

I have 2 questions for the X-perts.....
1)  The battery on the passenger side floor?Huh?
2) the tach and mirror on the dash...must be a great story with that one....well...KOPEC?Huh?.... PeelOut

I am not Kopec - but I think that the battery is there for weight distribution purposes and the mirror and tach location - for better visibility.  I am sure if I am wrong I will be corrected.

Actually the battery was probably relocated because of heat issues, it also looks to be larger that the standard Cobra size. The batteries on the street Cobras were only about a foot forward of this location on the engine compartment side on the front of the passenger's side foot box.

GREAT PHOTOS by the way, I would love to see some under hood shots from 1964-1965

Thanks for posting the great fotos.   I never noticed the vertical wings on the outer edge of the windshield of the coupe before and the standard issue FOMOCO washer bag in the coupe.
please post more,  karl

The wings on the coupe were to direct air to the rear brake ducts. When the Daytona was first tested it was found that due to the shape of the body the air was actually going out of the brake duct instead of into it.

The color of the steering wheel looks odd but maybe it is from looking through the windshield.

Take a look at the modification on the top of the drivers door on the 289 Cobra,   I need that extra space on my 427.
I'm gonna send my door up to panel craft this winter to have some changes made.    later, karl

The cut back drivers doors are one of the signs of a factory race car. Most, if not all had them.

Unbelievable pics...my slides are all yellowing like Polaroids? a million thanks for posting them.  Grin

The cut back doors are one of Bob Johnson's/Tom Greatorex special mods done on all of Bob's former cars (2026, 2189).

Unfortunately, CSX2189 suffered a severe crash at the hands of George Reed who was co-driving with Dan Gerber at this event.  You can see the significant damage to the car as well as the car it hit (car it hit is in the first picture)!!!  OUCH.  If you look closely, you can see CSX2189 all crunched up in the background of the first picture too.  The second picture shows CSX2189 loaded up on the trailer.
