Does anyone have a good picture of the marking on the rearend housing of a 1967 shelby gt 350. February  build. 3.89 gears. I thought I took picture but cant find it now. I only a had a partial marking, like a "C" shape. Marking on back of center section

Found picture, does anyone have complete picture of marking. Thanks jeremy

Not all housings had the same markings. You are better off with none at all then something that was wrong . For instance in concours you are not deducted for not having a assemblyline marking however if you put something there you had better be able to document that it was there on a 67 Shelby . Also if a obscure seldom seen type marking and given they typically did not all get markings you may get push back to provide reasonable documentation that it was used on your specific car (pre restoration photos etc.). Just because it was on one 67 Shelby car doesn't necessarily mean it should be on your car.  I would be most concerned about the proper historical components on the housing. For instance I see that you are missing the rear brake line strap and the rear axle tube ID paper tag. Those things were on all of 67 production.I think Dead nut on sells both.

The diff housing on 1183 has the marking "DSO".

I think I have heard previously that this is a low frequency of occurrence, maybe one per pallet of housings?

I just checked with Jack at Dead Nuts On and he does not have the paper tags for 67 Mustang/Shelby. He did say if he has the numbers he could make them.

The information on the paper tag corresponds with similar information on the rear end metal tag. The metal tag has extra info not used on the paper tag . If you know what is on the metal tag then you have the information needed for the paper tag. I believe I have discussed this at least 3 times over the years with Jack. ;)

Mr Gaines has anyone compiled it in a nice chart?

I imagine they are DSO axles and not easily looked up?

 Pete ,
As I'm sure you know "some" '68s were done as C8ZX and others were done as "production" axle assemblies. Dennis K "might" still have a contact at Ford's axle plant that "might" be able to look at 52 year old records and save us research time. IIRC there were only three suffixes used on C8ZX axle assemblies. A,B and C for different ratio open diffs.
   Randy

Amended, '67s were open when built at San Jose. All I've seen had C7ZX tags.

A easy way IMO would be to get people who have there rear end tag still with their car to post what it is. You will need them for GT350 and for GT500.  For example 67 GT350 and GT500's are different with a 3.50 rear. 3.00,3.25 3.50 is GT500 depending on if 4 speed or auto and or if A/C .

   Bob ,
IIRC it was the traction lock units that had "conventional" tag numbers  , the opens had the C8ZX numbers.

Randy, the vast majority of 67 Shelby production had thee open rear ends.
