Wanting to make sure i am doing this correctly. I was sure the hood cable mount was riveted on grill but looking at hole it looks like it might have had a screw. What is correct screw or rivet and if screw what kind. Thanks

Rivet(s).

Over the course of the years' production there were three different lanyard mounting locations.  This seems to be the pattern but there are probably some anomalies.

On early cars (with one-piece grilles and two-piece angled grilles) lanyards were attached to the top of the grille at the outer ends (like in the photo you posted) outside of the hood pin bracket.

Later two-piece vertical grille cars they were attached to the top but inboard a bit.

Later yet, they were attached to the hood pin bracket(s).

Photos to come...

thanks jd but the question i was asking is not where they mount but if they were screwed or riveted.  And the picture is the exact car i am asking about. Screwed or rivet to top of this in board grill????

On the topic I'm getting ready to install mine #706 should they be close to the edge on the grill or closer to the center and what size rivet?

Earlier car placement is typically to the outside edge of the grill. A 1/8 aluminum rivet was used.
