Title: ? Original warranty on a 1965-1970 Shelby Gt350's & Gt500's
Post by: 4thGear on February 02, 2017, 06:53:22 PM
What was the the original warranty (months/miles) offered on a 1965-1970 Shelby Gt350 & Gt500?
Did Shelby handle warranty on 1965-1967 Shelby Gt 500 & Gt350 or Ford?
Did Ford handle warranty service on 1968-1970 Shelby Gt350 & Gt500?

I having a super bowl party and am looking for some trivia question's
for some half time prizes.

I thought the Shelby warranty questions would be informative and interesting?

A friend said he remembered that all Shelby Mustang Warranty's were the same as the
factory warranty's from Ford, which were 12,000miles/12 months on motor, drive-train an
key components. Shelby did not give/offer any additional warranty on Shelby parts/add on's

This is not verified, just one old friends memory.

I do believe "Special Performance Vehicle" on door tags meant limited warranty.

On 65 and 66 GT350 warranty was voided in Mustang owner's manual.

Early XR7-G Cougars had "Special Performance Vehicle" on the door tags, later Gs did not, even tho there was no change mechanically.

Wonder if Ford differentiated solely because of the tag.

For 65-66 Ford's High Performance warranty, including GT350, was 4,000 miles or 90 days, whichever came first.

Man how times have changed. 2014 GT500 with 662 hp came with a 5 year/60,000 mile warranty.

yes , I have seen very few originals that had been issued. It makes me believe it wasn't a popular add on for the dealer. I have seen far more blank unissued originals.

I would be surprised if its related to door tags. Early 1968 Shelbys do have the "High Performance Vehicle" block. I think all 1968s would have hadthe same warranty.

When I bought '67 GT 500 # 962 new from S&C Ford, thought the warranty was 90 days or 3000 miles. They did replace the steering wheel as there was an issue with the horn. Got to keep the discarded steering wheel and years latter thru it in the trash....Duh! Who new?

It is my understanding that ford was loseing sales to the competition (mopar etc) over not having as good or long of a warranty to other makes so ford then came out with their new extanded warranty  plan

i think the power train in ford in 1969 was either 4/50 or 3/50
Replaced a number of 428 Cobra Jets under that warranty, but not sure if Shelby's were included

I knew a local drag strip regular back in 1969/70 that had several CJ engines successfully replaced under warranty on his Mach I.  CJ Mach I's didn't have the special performance vehicle tags that Shelby's did even though the drive train was virtually identical. There were so few Shelby's by comparison I don't remember ever hearing warranty stories about any of the Shelby's like I did regular Mustangs.
