Title: How to get the excess sealant off when installing upper and lower door scoops?
Post by: BlackCobraKR on September 04, 2022, 05:05:53 PM
I have read that clear silicone sealant was applied to the upper and lower scoops. How do you remove the excess sealant from the painted surfaces. My car has base coat/clear coat paint and was wondering how to remove the extra sealant after installing the scoops.

Also did the scoops scuff and rub through the factory paint after years of vibration?

Carefully mask off both sides with 3/4 inch tape before applying. Pull tape off while its still soft.

You can also use 409. Spray 409 on the silicone bead and wipe off. Silicone will not stick where the 409 is making it easier to remove the excess.

Tool the excess with saliva on a wet finger. Let the excess cure and wipe off with a dry finger. It will roll off as silicone will peel away when proper depth to width is not achieved.
