need some help clarifing some details on a 1970 shelby gt350 4 speed....first, shift knob...is the woodgrain cougar knob correct and not the blue stripe knob, second rear wheel cylinders...is the c6oz-2262-a correct for the nine inch (4 speed car)..7/8 inch bore(28/32),same wheel cylinder for both right and left side...third...rear exhaust L brackets(ones with carriage bolts thru them)...are they one short and one a little longer or both same length, are they natural and use zinc phosphate bolts and nuts. thx keith

Cougar knob small bleeder cyl both short lh rh raw steel L brackets facing forward in 69 dearborn and the 1 side long L was 65 66.

The part catalogs are and always have been goofed up on the rear brakes used with 31 spline axles.
If the car had an automatic transmission / no staggered shocks the two wheel cylinders were the same left and right, and the brake hose mounting was identical to an 8" rear.
If the car had staggered shocks there are left and right wheel cylinders. The mounting place for the flex hose is different. The hard lines are different.

but isn’t the blue stripe one acceptable as you have paperwork documenting they kept making errors at Dearborn Assy? I have pretty well documented car number 2916 came with a blue stripe knob. 2917 was stolen after 6 months and the OO son put a different handle on the car and oo kept the knob in his desk drawer until his death. 2916 there is no history of it all these years so it is possible it was cut up.1970 GT500 4 speed red, white interior and only one like it sold at a Whitfield Ford.

Royce the rear brake hose mounting position on 31 spline KR and 68 1/2 cj cars is different on auto vs 4-speed (staggered shock) cars but in 69-70 31 spline cars the brake hose mounting position is the same 4 speed vs auto use a separate vent hose hole moved outward like 68 4-speed cjs cars. Gary shift knob are very easy to switch out and steal and i think some 69 shelby owners liked the striped knob since the knob stripe matched the stripe on the car sides and looked kooler than the plain cougar wood knob and some may have left aosmith without getting changed out but i think the cougar knob was installed at dearborn plant since they were building cougars along side of the shelbys. U can also look at the lock nut to see if changed out since the lock nut is different between cougar and the striped knob.

Ed when I bought that shift knob the OO son said he took it off the car and it was on when they bought the car new oct 1969. He put a t handle on it and right after that car was stolen. His dad kept the knob in his desk drawer until his death in late 2000s. They were not really Ford guys so it didn’t come from anything else. Now did the knob get stolen on the dealer lot?anything is possible but you have docs documenting this was an issue. I agree with the cougar knob when possible and bought a nos one off of JimC.(rip) 2 years ago.

Cougar shift knob is clearly illustrated in the owners manual. Regardless of possible switches the Cougar shift knob was clearly engineered to be used.

Could have been switched at dealership or after it sat on lot

Just because something took place on one specific car and is documented for that car should not be a guide or recommendation to others with similar cars that the "fluke, mistake, or screw up" should be considered for their car. Owners of collector cars are often temped to make their cars different or "special" on purpose in order to stand out. Lots of examples of that taking place over the decades
Just because something "could have" does not provide an excuse or proof that it did :)

thx for all the replies....so to summarize....woodgrain cougar knob correct....wheel cylinder c60z-2262-a,7/8 bore,small bleeder same right and left,since this is a 28 spline 9in. rear, rear exhaust L brackets...same length both sides, natural finish...thx keith

So is this reproduction knob offered by West Coast Cougars the correct looking knob for a 1969 Shelby GT350 4 speed?

Yes thats the knob chris b made and it uses the thin lock nut.
