C4 Transmission Governors9624 viewsHere are two early C4 governors torn down. The one on the top is a "standard" C4 governor. Th eone on the bottom i s "HiPo" C4 governor - it would have a white paint stripe ID (on the top side), and has a lighter weight secondary counterweight (the last piece on the far right).cobrajeff

HiPo C4 Diagram6785 viewsHere is a diagram I drew many years ago for the GT350 Tech Exchange that shows the unique components in a "HiPo" version of the C4 Automatic Transmission. The Valve Body, Intermediate Piston & Cover assy. ,and the Governor were all special. The trans did NOT have a high-stall torque converter - the converter was stock. cobrajeff

C4 Intermediate Servos3737 viewsThe two on the left "A" and "B" are used on standard C4 automatics.b The "C" servo in the center was used in the "HiPo" version C4, and also in some Truck, Police, and Taxi applications. In later truck, Police, and Taxi apps, the "H" servo replaced the "C" Servo. It is the second largest C4 servo (and the best alternative if you can't find a "C" servo). The "R" servo on th eright is from later applications, and some drag-race tranny builders prefer it. cobrajeff

Intermediare Servos2373 viewsThese are two of the Intermediate Servo Covers (top) and pistons (bottom) used in the HiPo version of the C4 automatic transmission. In 1964, the HiPo C4 had parts like these WITHOUT the "C" letter designation. Early 1965's had a large "C" as shown on the right (this happens to be a repop cover - note no Ford logo). Later '65 and '66 used a cover like the one on the left, with a thinner "C" letter. For 1967, the HiPo C4 used a standard "A" Intermediate Servo Piston and Cover.cobrajeff

HiPo C4 Valve Body - 19671980 viewsIn the lower center area, you can see a "V" notch cut into the separator plate that identifies this as a "HiPo" valve body. This notch would be rectangular in a '65-66 HiPo valve body. It is not visible without removing the valve body from the tranny (the separator plate gasket hides it). cobrajeff
